ARGYA DHYAKSA

b. 1991

Argya Dhyaksa graduated from the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) in 2013, majoring in ceramic craft. Since then he has exhibited at various venues and events in Indonesia and beyond, such as the Jakarta Contemporary Ceramic Biennale at the National Gallery of Indonesia (2014), Langgeng Art Foundation in Yogyakarta, Lawangwangi Creative Space in Bandung (2016), and Art Central Hong Kong (2016). His 2015 solo exhibition “Labirin Diksi: Maju Mundur Pantang Terus” (Diction Labyrinth: Forwards Backwards No Advancement) was exhibited at Suar Art Space in Jakarta.

Dhyaksa rejects the step of conceptualizing prior to sculpting, preferring to do so as he works. His raw and unpolished ceramic objects are reminiscent of doodles and the free and disorganized thought process that accompanies it. The works exhibit a playful yet cynical attitude. Each object in an installation set may be paired with text that either have no meaning, or alters the meaning of the object, usually as references to pop culture, or humorous or dark textual and visual puns.
