There were several records of the time the art booms in Indonesia had happened throughout history, but the most phenomenal times were the first period in the late 1980s and the second in the 2000s. These two phenomena were, of course, strongly interconnected in this context to the national economic situation that, in both periods, there were rapid increases in the intensity of buying and selling artworks, as well as increasing discourses on investment in artworks, and the emergence of commercial galleries – and of course those led to the great demand of Indonesian artists’ artworks at the auction houses. We will not specifically focus on the discourse of these periods, but this exhibition is to bring us to recall those artists who made success in the phenomenal period of Indonesia’s contemporary art boom, by presenting their artworks here, as a part of our exhibition program of artwork collections from significant periods in the Indonesian art voyage.
