SARI-SARI

“Focus On Living Fully In The Present”

A Solo Exhibition by TEMPA

Tempa is the artistic duo of Putud Utama and Rara Kuastra, who have been creating together since 2015. At the onset of their collaboration, Tempa delved into the concept of home, questioning whether it’s a physical structure, their hometown, or a loved one. Throughout this process, they reimagined everyday objects found around their homes and close to their families. Things like potted plants, plastic chairs, teapots, and various home decorations were redrawn. Eventually, the idea of home evolved into a narrative continuously explored by Tempa, discovering that questioning the concept of home is a part of seeking harmony.

Harmony is a central theme in their solo exhibition titled “Sari-Sari,” which translates to the essence of various life fragments feeling fitting, balanced, and in place. It serves as a reminder that what we’re experiencing now is an important part of life that should be lived with full awareness, a “focus on living fully in the present.”

Tempa’s paintings and installations influence and inspire each other. In series like “Congratulations To You…” and “Small Things Matter,” they delve into the intricate relationship between mental health, emotions, and the human body. This is depicted through images of human heads filled with elements of plants and everyday objects, emphasizing the importance of training the mind, finding balance, and happiness in daily activities.

Another series showcased in this solo exhibition is “Cosmic Patterns,” which discusses how everything around us is invisibly connected yet palpable, naturally linked without needing physical union. This concept is reflected in their modular structured works, featuring touches of deconstruction and asymmetry yet feeling balanced. The connecting thread between each element in the artwork symbolizes small fragments of life events coming together to form a harmonious whole, like uniting little pieces of life’s occurrences.
